A while ago I found some oak floorboards in a skip near my workshop. I've been storing them and whacking my shins on them for some time, waiting for the right thing to use them for.

Last week Ben showed me some oak furniture and it inspired me to dive in and use the oak.
No more bruised shins.

I began by preparing the wood – first step: removing the nails. Many of these just snapped off, so I chopped the plank up into lengths and used the nails as points to miss, dictating the proportions.
It can be difficult to work with materials which restrain a process so much, but to me it presents a welcome challenge.

This is exactly the challenge the pub will present as the design develops over time. We don’t know what it will look like but that’s part of the enjoyment. We'll have the materials so lets just build it.
