It saddens me to say that our beloved Hello Wood Christmas tree is now gone - bedded, floored, downed - and stripped of its festivities to nothing more than a scattering of screws and a pile of timber.
What can we make from that?
Hello, stage two.
It's been an absolute pleasure working with the Hello Wood team from Hungary this season and to have had an insight into what they do on a regular basis. I am well and truly inspired.
This has been a project I'll not forget for a long time. The material from the tree will literally be embedded in many of the things we make at The Pilcrow - this was of course a consideration from the beginning of the tree’s life.
In dismantling the tree, I see many new possibilities appearing before my eyes, shapes and structures that were hidden in the depths of bigger structures when it arrived in Manchester one month ago.
We are indeed unearthing the unknown and the future of The Pilcrow.
The oak of the tree is 'as we speak' drying in my workshop in Castlefield. Those of you who signed up to the Build a Workbench workshop will have the pleasure of working it on the 19th March.
Think dry thoughts and we'll see you there!
