THE BEER LIST
THE PILCROW'S SUMMER BEER THING
You are invited to Sadler’s Yard this June at the closing of Manchester Beer Week for the Pilcrow’s Summer Beer Thing, a three-day Summer celebration of the best beers that the North has to offer.
Makers of Indy Man Beer Con, Port Street Beer House, Cloudwater and The Pilcrow combine to deliver an exciting new covered outdoor beer festival. Pilcrow’s Summer Beer Thing will present examples of the very best beer styles from the North West’s (and beyond) bristling brewery scene. Expect to find 74 taps pouring at any one session with a whopping 230 beers lined up for over the duration (See the brewery list below)
With food from YAKUMAMA (Latin American street food), COMMON KITCHEN (burgers from NQ mainstay, Common), WOODFIRESMOKE (wood fired sourdough pizzas) and AL PASTOR PAUL (traditional Mexican inspired tacos and burritos), Summer Beer Thing will be a sprawling showcase of the finest food and drink in the land.
The Pilcrow will be the nerve centre of Summer Beer Thing with the expansive doorstep of Sadler’s Yard housing a marquee of cherry picked craft beers and street food. Beers will be grouped together in style categories, with bars focused on pouring the best pale ales, IPAs, fruit, sour beers and much more. The emphasis will be on freshness and perfect Summer pairings. A showcase of what’s happening in your own back yard…in Sadler’s Yard.
The following bars will make up Summer Beer Thing...
SESSION - 10 taps dedicated to session beers
HOPPY AND HOPPIER - 20 taps dedicated to pales, IPAs and DIPAs
FRUIT / SOUR - 10 taps dedicated to fruit focused and sour beers
OTHER - 10 taps dedicated to beers that defy the above categorisations
CLOUDWATER - 10 taps dedicated to Ratebeer's 5th best brewery in the world, Cloudwater
THE PILCROW - 14 taps dedicated to pouring Summer Beer Thing selections
COME RAIN, COME SHINE, we have you covered...literally. The outdoor bars will be covered under a giant marquee. Weatherproof! So plenty of room for everybody to knock about in Sadler's Yard under a giant roof.
Expect DJs, informal talks, and workshops alongside the best beer and best food you’re likely to enjoy all Summer. You’ll find something for everyone throughout the day-into-night sessions. Should you need to carry on over the finish line, retreat inside to the cosy confines of The Pilcrow where you’ll find yet more beer, cider, wine, and spirits pouring until 1am (Friday and Saturday, midnight Sunday).
Make Sadler’s Yard your playground this Friday 30th June – Sunday 2nd July 2017. Summer Beer Thing is ALIVE!

FREQUENTLY ASKED SUMMER BEER THING QUESTIONS
What beers are on and when?
See our comprehensive running order list above. There are six bars at Summer Beer Thing. 74 taps. 130 beers. We have listed the order in which the kegs are going on each tap. There will be signs up on the site and online with this info as well as beer boards behind the bar showing what’s on at that moment. Save these pics to your phone to have them readily available in your pocket.
What happens when I arrive?
You’ll show your advance ticket on your mobile device or print out at the entrance and be given a Summer Beer Thing glass with one beer token on entry. If you haven't got an advance ticket, fear not! There will be tickets available on the door. Tickets on the door will not come with a beer token, you will be given a glass.
What’s the deal with beer tokens?
Beers at Summer Beer Thing will be served in 1/3 pint measures. Our preferred measure for tasting beers at festivals. Every beer at Summer Beer Thing will be one token price. One token = one third. Of anything.
The price of one beer is based upon the average cost of beer across the festival. This works out at £2.20 per third, the cost of a single token. A 10 token bundle will be available at £20 which equates to £2 per beer.
Tokens will be available for purchase on arrival at Summer Beer Thing. We accept cash or card. To speed up the process we suggest cash but card machines will be available.
Will tickets be available on the door?
Yes, there will be walk up tickets on the door at each session.
Can I leave once I’m in?
Why would you want to go anywhere else? Given these are long 11 hour sessions (on the Friday and Saturday, 12pm-8pm on the Sunday) we anticipate that you may need to duck out. You will be given a wristband on arrival and you can come and go as you please at your session.
What if I don’t like beer?
You’ve come to the right place! No really. The Pilcrow will be carrying its usual range of excellent cider, wine, spirits, hot and soft drinks.
Do I need a wristband to get into the Pilcrow during Summer Beer Thing?
You ask all the right questions don’t you! No. The Pilcrow will be open to the public as normal throughout Summer Beer Thing. Plus, you will be able to pay cash OR tokens for beers at the bar. Non-beers will be non-token, strictly speaking.
What if it rains?
We'll be a bit sad but it doesn't really matter as the bars at Summer Beer Thing will be under cover in a giant marquee! You'll be protected from the elements under a large roof in the spacious oasis of Sadler's Yard.
Yes. You will find food vendors throughout Summer Beer Thing. Yakumama (Latin American street food), WoodFireSmoke (pizza), Common Kitchen (burgers) and Al Pastor Paul (tacos / burritos) will be serving up food from midday at every session. Food vendors will all take cash, not beer tokens. Some food vendors will accept card but it is advisable to come prepared with cash.
Can kids come?
Children are welcome during the day accompanied by a guardian but no children after 7pm, please. Same goes for dogs. Not that kids and dogs are the same but the same rules apply.
